The world has crossed the Rubicon on renewable energy-there’s no turning back. Yet, natural gas remains a strategic pillar in both global and regional energy transitions. Its role as a transition fuel is especially critical for Africa’s industrialization and economic development.
As we embrace this energy shift, Africa must avoid repeating the mistakes of the crude oil era-exporting raw materials while importing finished products. The continent holds vast reserves of rare earth elements essential to the renewable energy future. We must ensure value addition happens within our borders and prioritize human capital development across the energy value chain.
